Nikah Services

“And of His signs is that He has created for you, from yourselves, mates, so that you may repose in them. And He has set between you genuine love and mercy. Indeed, in this there are sure signs for those who reflect.”
– (Qur’an, 30:21)

ETCIC provides Nikah services for Muslims according to Islamic teachings of marriage principles and as required by the State of Minnesota Laws. Our Imams are authorized to solemnize an Islamic Marriage as required by the State of Minnesota Laws. To have one of our Imams officiate your Marriage Ceremony, you must complete the following steps:

  • Carefully read and understand the Rules and Guidelines listed below.
  • Complete the Nikah Service Request form.
  • Meet with the Imam prior to the Marriage Ceremony.

Once your Nikah Service Request form is submitted, our office will contact you to schedule a meeting with the Imam to:

  • Verify the planned marriage is approved by the bride’s Wali, or Guardian.
  • Verify all requirements (Islamic and Legal) are satisfied.
  • Explain the procedure of and the paperwork required at the Marriage Ceremony.
  • Answer questions related to the requirements and procedure of the Marriage Ceremony.
  • Confirm the date and time of the Marriage Ceremony.
  • Pay the appropriate service fee: $200 for sustaining donors and $300 for non-sustaining donors.
Rules and Requirements

1) Groom must be a Muslim. Marriage Ceremony will not be performed between a Muslim female and a non-Muslim male. For a new Muslim male, a Certificate of Declaration of Faith, or Shahada, is required.

2) Couple must meet all Islamic requirements for marriage; these include:

  • The Wali, or Guardian, of the bride must participate in the Marriage Ceremony. Details about the requirements on the Wali will be discussed in the meeting with the Imam.
  • An agreed-upon Mahr, or Dowry gift, to be given to the Bride by the Groom.
  • Two Muslim, male, witnesses to be present at the Marriage Ceremony. The Wali can not be one of these witnesses.
  • Offer and Acceptance between the Bride and her Wali and the Groom to be exchanged at the Marriage Ceremony. Details will be discussed in the meeting with the Imam.

3) Couple must obtain a Marriage License from their Local County Courthouse. There are two scenarios:

  • If your marriage has not been officiated at a County Courthouse, bring the valid Marriage License and the return envelope to the Marriage Ceremony and our Imam will fill it out and return it to the County Courthouse via mail to be recorded as a legal marriage.
  • If your marriage has been officiated at a County Courthouse, bring the official Marriage License with you to the Marriage Ceremony.
ETCIC will not conduct a Marriage Ceremony without a valid, or official, Marriage License issued by a Local County Courthouse.

4) ETCIC only conducts the Marriage Ceremony at the Masjid. No offsite Marriage Ceremonies are offered by ETCIC.

5) Request for marriage ceremony must be at least 3 weeks from the proposed date of the Marriage Ceremony.
